Happy New Year! I hope you’ve enjoyed a break over the past few weeks and you’re approaching 2018 with resolve.

I’m sure I’m not alone in being inspired by the Golden Globe awards on Sunday. Actors took to the red carpet dressed in black and accompanied by activists. It was such a powerful example of how they could use their platform to advocate for a better world.

The highlight, of course, was Oprah’s incredible speech. It’s a speech that will go down in the history books but will it mark a seismic shift? Is there truly ‘a new day on the horizon’? The answer to that question lies in each of us. We’ve heard the clarion call, now what?

As leaders in Australia’s workplaces (and we are all leaders regardless of our title), it is up to us to ensure those words ring true here and in our everyday lives. Whether you are witness to or the subject of harassment or discrimination, it is time for each and every one of us to stand up, speak up and declare #timesup to all those who abuse their power. Now is the time to ask yourself “what am I called to do?”
