Happy New Year! I hope you’ve enjoyed a break over the past few weeks and you’re approaching 2018 with resolve.
I’m sure I’m not alone in being inspired by the Golden Globe awards on Sunday. Actors took to the red carpet dressed in black and accompanied by activists. It was such a powerful example of how they could use their platform to advocate for a better world.
The highlight, of course, was Oprah’s incredible speech. It’s a speech that will go down in the history books but will it mark a seismic shift? Is there truly ‘a new day on the horizon’? The answer to that question lies in each of us. We’ve heard the clarion call, now what?
As leaders in Australia’s workplaces (and we are all leaders regardless of our title), it is up to us to ensure those words ring true here and in our everyday lives. Whether you are witness to or the subject of harassment or discrimination, it is time for each and every one of us to stand up, speak up and declare #timesup to all those who abuse their power. Now is the time to ask yourself “what am I called to do?”
We know this takes enormous courage and requires support. If you need help stepping into your leadership and speaking truth to power, Talkpoint might be right for you. We are, after all, expert at holding spaces for conversations that matter and nothing could matter more than this.
If you would like more information about what we do, or to talk about how we could support you in 2018, please drop me a line. And whether you work with us or others to humanise your workplaces we deeply appreciate your intent and wish you all the very best for the year ahead.
With love and solidarity
